Unregulated Car Washes

Unregulated Car Washes

Unregulated car washes are now a fact of life. Thousands have set up across the island, many without planning permission, proper drainage or interceptor allowing trade effluent water to run into surface drains.

Many of these unregulated sites employ casual labour and may not have the correct insurance, pay PRSI, VAT or corporation tax. As a legitimate retail trader you pay water rates, comply with all necessary environmental legislation – you are complying with the law and regulations – why is there not a level playing field with all car washes being treated equally?

Everyone is entitled to earn a living but the application of the current laws and rules governing car washes must be equally applied to ALL retail forecourts and ALL washes in operation across the island.

If you have a wash near you that you think does not have;

  1. Valid planning permission
  2. No interceptor or a discharge licence
  3. Does not pay for commercial water usage
  4. You suspect has no public liability/employers insurance
  5. Pays cash in hand
